Book Week 2023
"Read, Grow and Inspire!"
During this time schools and public libraries spend one wonderful week celebrating books and Australian children’s authors and illustrators.
The Australian Childrens Council holds on annual competition to promote the importance of reading and the joy that children find in books.
Schools, libraries, booksellers, authors, illustrators, and families come together to celebrate Australian literature in a variety of ways.
At Blackwell in 2023 we are celebrating the joy of reading - my favourite past time with a book fair, book parade and family picnic.
Please come visit the library where each staff member has had their portrait taken with their favourite book! (Thanks Mrs Freney for our professional shots!)
Each book has been selected by a staff member for the impact it has had when immersed in good quality literature.
I wonder if you have had a favourite book? The public library is my second home! Forget the ‘Kindle’ I love the feel of a book, the turning of the page, even the smell!
In this modern age I feel we are at risk of neglecting books and the joy of reading more than ever. Through no fault of their own, children are exchanging a good adventure story for an interactive game. Call me old fashioned but there is no greater way to escape than to bury your head in a good book!
I can’t wait for holidays to spend the day reading!!
Book Week may be a time to visit your local library, or a chance to share your favourite authors and / or books. Perhaps to even read together?
The theme Read, Grow and Inspire enables us to focus on how literature has the capacity to develop a child’s inner world and how books can water our imagination or plant seeds of creativity.
Book Week celebrates the magic of books. It honours our wonderful authors and plays a pivotal role in a childs development.
I hope we can all find ways to celebrate Book Week.
Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday.
Please check out our author Tim Harris, who will join our students here next week.
Happy reading.
Regards
Kris Hudswell
