With Winter soon to be upon us it is a timely reminder to please keep sick children at home. If your child is unwell please keep them at home. With significant staff shortages across our state we are trying to keep everybody healthy and our school running smoothly.
I would like to conclude with a few photos collected this term that continue to highlight the diverse opportunities Blackwell offers to our families.
Thanks for a great Term 2

Check in Assessment
Currently, Blackwell Years 4 and 6 are completing the Check-in assessments. These assessments are online assessment for students in Years 3 to 9. They are mapped to the NSW Syllabuses and National Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions. There are two assessments:
- reading
- numeracy
Each assessment is designed to be quick and easy to administer, consisting of between 40 to 50 multiple choice questions.
Attendance
COVID seems to have crept back within our community once again with several staff and students already affected. We remind families to monitor students for any COVID symptoms, practise good hand hygiene, wear masks if needed and undertake RATs if symptoms are evident. In addition to COVID, we are seeing many colds and bugs and remind families that if students are unwell then rest at home is the best cure. Remember to let the school know when your child is absent from school.
As many of you will be aware, there are significant challenges in finding casual teachers when staff are absent. We are very lucky here at Blackwell as we have some wonderful casual teachers who step in at the drop of a hat. At a last resort will we split classes. These classes are usually split to the same stage cohort.
Coin Race
The annual Coin Race Competition is back. Which classes will win the Pizza Parties this year. Last year it was Mrs Bulluss and Mr Bugden’s classes that won. Classes are currently collecting 5c pieces ready for our race in Week 10 Wednesday 28th.
Paul Kelly Cup Blacktown Champions
Congratulations to Blackwell on winning the Paul Kelly Cup. This win means that we will now compete in the Western Regional Finals on Monday 31st July.
Arriving to School
Our front gates open at 8.30am, so students should try and arrive close to that time. Students arriving at school on time to start the school day is very important. Please ensure your child/ren arrive at school five to ten minutes before the first warning bell rings at 8.57am and then the 9.00am bell. Arriving after this time, even if it is only a few minutes is very disruptive to your child’s class and their learning.
Breakfast Club at Blackwell Public School
Our Breakfast Club has been very successful with lots of students taking advantage of a free breakfast on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. We have had a variety of breakfast food on offer including cereal, fruit, breakfast bars and snacks. Some food students can have for breakfast, while other snacks are put away till recess or lunch time. We are also offering the community an opportunity to come up and
