Parent - Teacher interviews have been moved to the end of this term!
Staff felt that following on from our parent information evening earlier this term it would be far better to meet each familiy and have a more formal interview. These sessions will give both teacher and parent a chance to discuss each child's strengths and weaknesses, and plan together to support our students.
Bookings will be available online through our Schoolzine app. Teachers are presently opening time slots during the last two weeks of school (fast approaching!) and Wednesday 3rd April 2019 has been set aside for evening interviews.
You will be invited to organise time slots from Monday 25th March 2019 until Sunday 31st March 2019.
Please take this opportunity to come and share the educational journey of your children.
Bunnings have been a wonderful support to our SRC with the provision of a new "frog pond" and the kind donation of a timber bench seat. The Stage 2 SRC did a great job of assisting with the assembly and building of both. Special thanks to Narelle from Minchinbury Bunnings.
Thank you to Charlie G for his kind donation of three frogs to get us started. We hope they will stay and enjoy their new habitat.
Please check details for the K - 2 Easter activities in their respective sessions.
Please read our newsletter and follow us on our Facebook pages. It saves phone calls and questions.
The new uniform tender process is under way. Ads will appear in our local press shortly. The committee discussed options at our last P&C and decided that we will only have one school shirt. We decided the 'sports' shirt is the more popular with both parents and students and will be phased in as our school shirt. We welcome your input and our P&C meetings are the perfect forum to discuss these things and more.

A note from the Deputy Principal
It has been a busy term and we are now nearing the end of term. Please may I remind you that full school uniform is to be worn with no jewellery. Studs are allowed for pierced ears.
Please remind your child to walk out from the school via the school gates either the front or back. No student is allowed to run or walk through the teacher carpark. Students are expected to wait inside the gates for parents to arrive, not outside on the street.
When coming into school of a morning may I also remind you that the library area is closed. It is not a through area. Please use the walkways to get to designated play areas. This applies to both parents and students.
Congratulations to our School Leaders who recently attended a leadership Conference at Homebush recently. They were great ambassadors for Blackwell and came back with motivation to be great school leaders.
Thank you to the parents who came to our Aboriginal Yarn Time to meet Allyson. Those who attended felt it was worthwhile and informative. We will hold another Yarn Time in term2.

Top Tips for effectively using sunscreen:
- Use at least SPF 30+ broad spectrum water resistant sunscreen.
- Patch test sunscreen on a small on skin – especially if you have not used the product before.
- Apply and Reapply – apply sunscreen 20 minutes before going outside and reapply every 2 hours.
- Apply generously – Recommended to use ½ a teaspoon of sunscreen to each arm, leg, front of body, back of body and face.
- Store sunscreen in a cool, dry place and check the use by date. Remember sunscreen filters out most but not all UV radiation. Hats and sunglasses are recommended to protect your child.
- Role model best practice sun protection.

ANZAC DAY
Students of Blackwell have been requested to show their support for the St Marys RSL Sub Branch by attending the Dawn Service on Thursday, 25th April at St Marys RSL. In past years, the RSL has received tremendous support from our students and parents at Blackwell and we hope that we may continue this tradition by participating in this year’s services. We are asking that our SRC members and any other students of Blackwell represent our school at this service. Miss Washburn will be attending the Dawn Service and will meet students near the entrance to the RSL club. Due to popular turnout, it is recommended that you arrive before 4:30am. YEAR 6 HIGH SCHOOL FORMS

STAGE 3 PRIVILEGE DAY
A privilege day for Stage 3 will be planned for the final week of Term 1. We are looking at walking our students up to St Clair Leisure Centre, where they can play some sports in the centre and then walk over to the shops and buy our lunch. A note will be home in the next few weeks. Look for a permission note coming home soon.
INTERVIEWS
Stage 3 will be running parent teacher interviews in Week 10/11 of Term 1. It would be great to see all parents up for interviews, as this will be an opportunity to give you information about how your child is travelling in Stage 3 and what we need to work on over the next few terms to improve or further develop their results. Look out for information coming out soon, where you can book a suitable time.
ASSESSMENTS
Your child/ren might have come home and told you about their results in a maths test we did in Week 5. It’s important to know that the test was completed by all Stage 3 students and it is a great indication what your child has learnt and retained in the first 5 weeks of this Term. It also helps the teachers keep track of what is required with revision of certain topics. Stage 3 students could choose to practise these skills at home for further consolidation.MERIT & VIRTUE AWARDS
