Welcome to 2023 at Blackwell Public School. Our theme for this year is:
"Education is the key to success"
For us 'Education' is not just about the buildings and structures but more about living our best life.
Any article you read will give you a list of qualities the author considers vital. As Blackwell staff we have had quite a few discussions on what qualities we consider essential.
We have no definitive answer but our top 3 always seem to include:
* Clarify of Purpose
* A Positive Growth Mindset and
* Courage
We have also spent time explaining what 'success' looks like and how can it be measured. Weightly topics but ones we all need to consider!
Each class is already discussing such qualities and drawing up a classroom list of expectations.
We want our students to be a 'life long learner' by giving them the knowledge, skills, values and attitude to be resilient, adaptable and prepared for a future that is ever changing.
We aim to "Educate for Tomorrow" by creating global citizens who have a sense of belonging to a world that requires us all to take positive actions. One of our phrases is "think global but act local".
Our planet requires us to look after our local environment looking at our home and school as focal points for action.
As a school our duty as teachers requires that our programs are effective in meeting each childs needs and that we create an atmosphere of community support.
As I have now reached 50 wonderful years in this profession I can say that my life has been successful. I can honestly say I continue to measure it by the families, children and staff I work with each and everyday.
My life has been rich and blessed. I look forward to spending 2023 doing what I love most - teaching!!
Welcome and may 2023 be measured by many personal successes for us all.

Hi Kris
Thank you for welcoming me into your school on the first Staff Development Day of 2023.
It was fantastic to join you and your staff to celebrate your outstanding career that spans 50 years with the NSW Department of Education – what a monumental milestone! I was very impressed to discover that your entire teaching career has been in Western Sydney starting in 1973 at Lethbridge Park Infants School through to your current role at Blackwell Public School.
Well done for leading the Blackwell Public School community for the last 22 years with such integrity, courage, respect and agility. Your staff respect you because you lead from the front and get your hands dirty whether that’s rehanging your stage curtains or teaching collaboratively with your staff in classrooms.
Thank you for your service to students and commitment to public education. It is clear you have achieved so much for the students in your care. Please pass on my thanks to your staff for accommodating my visit and taking the time to speak with me.
Congratulations on leading your staff and school community so well. Have a great year!
Regards
Murat Dizdar

News from the Deputy Principal
Welcome back to all Blackwell families. We have an exciting 2023 planned for our students. Performances, incursions, concerts, Sporting Gala Days, Privilege Days and carnivals are some of the events we have planned for 2023.
We are committed to working with parents, carers, students, and families to ensure all students are happy and thriving at school. If you have any concerns, please contact the classroom teacher first. The student's teacher is generally the best person to handle routine concerns about matters within their classroom and / or area of responsibility. It’s best you let someone know about your concerns as early as possible.
Parents will have an opportunity to meet their teachers in Week 4 and we encourage all parents to make an interview time. It is vital that we continue to make these connections between home and school. Please ensure that all your information such as mobile numbers, addresses, medical information etc… is current and up to date with the school. If you have updated your details can you please email the school. blackwell-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au. This includes any paperwork which is related to your child and could assist the school and teachers. These include speech, paediatrics and psychologists reports.
Dental forms were sent home last week. This is a 100% free service for all NSW primary school students. Please complete the form and return it to your child’s class teacher before Monday, 20th February 2023.
NSW Health Primary School Dental Program
NSW Health is working with public primary schools to offer free dental check-ups and preventive care to students as part of a school-based mobile dental program. Your child’s school has been selected to participate in this program.
The program involves a mobile dental team making scheduled visits to your child’s primary school. During the first appointment a dental check-up and preventive care package will be provided, subject to parental consent.
NSW Health prioritises the health, well-bring and safety of your staff and students. The program will utilise all available information provided by NSW Health, the Australian Government and the World Health Organisation (WHO) in relation to COVID-19. Our staff have implemented and reinforced a number of additional, proactive health and safety measures to ensure we can continue to provide your students with the best and safest experience possible. This will include NSW Health staff completing a temperature screen of your child prior to their dental examination.
The program is scheduled to visit your child’s school from 20th February to 3rd March 2023.
Teachers are currently organising Lexia for 2023. Students will shortly come home with their logon details.
Blackwell would like to see all students using Lexia at home to help with their Literacy Skills. Information about how to access Lexia will also be sent home. Any questions, please contact the class teacher.
This year, your child will be using Lexia® Core5® Reading—a fun, computer-based program that has helped millions of students improve their literacy skills. The activities in Core5 support and build on your child’s classroom curriculum and focus on developing reading skills in six areas: phonological awareness, phonics, structural analysis, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Here’s how Lexia Core5 Reading works:
- Your child begins Core5 at a starting point that fits his or her needs and then engages in online activities throughout the week.
- Online activities include direct instruction and immediate feedback as your child learns new skills. • Progress and performance in the program are reported directly to teachers so that they can provide assistance when needed.
- Paper-and-pencil activities are also used for practice and may be completed in school or brought home.
- Achievement certificates may be sent home to celebrate success and to show progress in the program.
We hope you share in our excitement about this program! To learn more, visit www.LexiaLearning.com.
