- Good Morning
Half way through the first term!!!
Can I say "Thank you" for all your support in all the various ways and means that we require and ask for your assistance.
Just a few reminders-
Firstly I would hope that more than 64% will open this newsletter! It is our main means of communication. Please give us feedback if we are failing in this area. We have tried a few new things over the last few years but need your input.
Please ensure our students are coming to school each day in correct uniform. We are about to advertise for a new uniform supplier as we are required by the department to open this service to tender. Can I remind parents and students that white socks and black shoes are the correct footwear at Blackwell. A broad brim hat is also required. Please ensure all items are labelled clearly.
It is wonderful to see so many students following the rules. Our Learner's licences begin this week. A great start to 2019!
Congratulations to our newly elected P&C for 2019 and my sincere gratitude for the 2018 executive team and their work on your behalf. We are such a lucky school.
- President - Frank Zlendich
- Vice President - Joanne Dawes
- Vice President - Anna Sheen
- Secretary - Tammy Bigeni
- Treasurer - Eleanor Drew
SRC representatives have been chosen and will receive their badges on Monday, 25th March at 2pm. Congratulations to Riley H and Madeline S on their selection as our Junior AECG representatives. Our STEPS Learning Community is very proud to support our young Aboriginal students and provide a forum for them to discuss and plan events.
Congratulations to our District Swimming team who competed last week with some excellent results. Mrs Anderson and Mr Samuels both spoke highly of your team spirit and behaviour.
I hope students and parents found our first workshop on Cyberbullying informative. Technology is a wonderful tool when used correctly but can also be a danger when used incorrectly. We all need to keep up with the demands this places on famillies and schools.

A note from the Deputy Principal
We have had a good start to the year with most students engaged and attending school each day.
Regular attendance is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase career and life options. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.
Education is compulsory for all children from six years of age. When enrolled, children are required to attend school each day it is open for students.
Arriving on time is important!
It ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities schedules early in the day.
It helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine.
It gives students time to greet their friends before class.
It reduces classroom disruption.
Lateness is recorded as a partial absence and must be explained by parents.
Support your child by being cyber-aware:
-Regularly monitor what they are looking at on the internet and social media sites and do what you can to reduce their exposure to inappropriate content.
-Place the computer or device in a common area of the house so your child is less likely to try and access inappropriate web sites or use social media sites inappropriately.
-Consider using filters to help control what your child can access.
As your child grows, they will be exploring their own values and beliefs. They may search for and push the boundaries of acceptable, responsible behaviour during this process. For more information or help you can contact:

Stage 3 CAMP
What an amazing response to our camp. Get your deposits in as soon as possible or pay the whole lot in one go. Our camp is in Term 4. Don't have a note see the front office, or your teacher or go to our website.
SHIRTS AND JUMPERS
The Year 6 jumpers have arrived but we are still waiting for our Year 6 shirts. They will take a little longer because they are sublimated.
MATHS TEST
All of Stage 3 did a maths test last week and should be coming home telling you their result. The test covered all the work we have been focusing on in the first 5 weeks. If you have any concerns please contact the office and make an appointment with the teacher.
UNIFORM
Please remember uniform is to be worn every day. No jewellery, makeup or long earrings should be worn. Some different coloured jumpers are beginning to appear. Our uniform is navy blue jumpers only please.
MOBILE PHONES
They are to be handed in the front office before the child comes to lines in the morning. Parents can you please check that your child is following our school's procedure. If phones are left in bags they can be broken, lost or stolen.
POLICE TALKS
Over the next few weeks we are having the police come out and talk to the Stage 3 about Cyberbullying, Internet Safety and law concerning social media. This will be very timely as we are dealing with far too many issues regarding social media, where children (who are not legally allowed to have accounts) are posting things about others. We call the KEYBOARD WARRIORS. The consequences are pretty scary when you know the law.
