- SCHOOL STUDENT TRAVEL INFORMATION
So a very wet welcome to mid term! Our thoughts and prayers go to families across the globe dealing with so much human tragedy.
As COVID restrictions are eased we are able to plan for a more normal term!
Drop offs each morning have worked extremely well with most students happy to enter the school grounds and walk with friends or siblings. It has been great to watch the friendships blossom and siblings taking care of younger brothers and sisters. We will continue to ask parents to assist with these procedures and encourage each student to be responsible and make their way to their areas. Even rain and umbrellas did not deter our students!!!!
Pick ups from next week Monday, 7th March will return to normal dismissal time for all students with the bells ringing at 3pm. Parents may wait inside the school gates on the Basketball courts, the Sail area at the front gates or the Yarning space. Please discuss with your child/children where is the best point to meet you or siblings.
Scripture for Years 1 to 6 will start next week with 3 options available-Catholic, Combined Christian and Non-Scripture. This information is provided when you enrol a student. Kinders do not attend Scripture until Term 2.
We look forward to having Buddies, SRC meetings and assemblies once more!!!
Congratulations to our first Principal Award winners. It was lovely to host an assembly and recognise these outstanding students. Our next combined assembly will be Monday, 21st March where our SRC, library monitors and reps for the STEPS AECG (Aboriginal Education Consultative Group) will be inducted. Parents will be most welcome to attend!!
This week we could have seen our students mix cohorts for the fist time in months, however wet weather stalled this. Luckily we have large areas undercover to all for some outside time even if we got a little damp!
RAT kits are still available for pick up. Please visit the school office during school hours. As of next week staff are no longer required to wear masks but may choose to do so. The same applies to all students and visitors.
Parent teacher interviews are being organised for Week 10, beginning Monday, 28th March 2022. Bookings are made on line with staff organising suitable times. Wednesday, 30th has been set aside for evening time slots. Details regarding booking process is in the 'Parent/Caregiver Teacher Interviews' tab below. Please follow the link provided to booking 1 (one) time slot per child. Bookings will be open from today, Wednesday, 2nd till Friday, 18th March 2022 at 3pm.
Please take this opportunity to come meet us!! Lots of new faces to get to know.
Finally, our P&C meet next Monday,7th March at 6:30pm for our AGM followed by our monthly meeting at 7pm. We will meet in the library to accommodate all our parents eager to become involved in this important forum. Cost $1 to be a financial member and exercise your voting rights!! We would love some new faces and voices. Our P&C is a great team but always ready to hear new ideas. Please consider coming along!!!

NEWS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Our students have been spending the last 5 weeks at school learning the road rules (teacher, class and school expectations). From Weeks 6 to 11 the students will be working towards earning their L plates.
I am sure there will be a few hiccups along the way but as long as we learn from our mistakes.
Wishing our 27 District Swimmers all the very best for this Fridays District Swimming Carnival. Stay tuned to our Facebook pages and newsletters for more information and results. Swimmers are encouraged to do their best. Good luck.
Rod Woolard
Deputy Principal
Our next P&C meeting is Monday, March 7th at 6:30pm which is the Annual General Meeting will be held in Blackwell Public School Library.
Following a recent survey, we found firstly many parents were not aware what the P&C was about, and secondly that there is a need for more people to join with fresh ideas.
Our Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C) is made up of parents and carers, teachers and community members. The P&C meets regularly to contribute to decision-making, developing policies and management plans as well as fundraising. Cost is $1 to become a financial member.
The Parent and Citizens Association (P&C) of Blackwell Public School meet at 7:00pm in the staffroom on the first Monday of the month during school terms only. (When Covid restrictions permit).
The role of our P&C is to work together, as a team, to enhance the school for the benefit of our children. The meetings provide a forum for parents to come together to find out what is happening in the school. At our monthly meetings we make decisions or how we allocate funds raised through the voluntary contribution levy, as well as any funds contributed from our sub committees. We also have the opportunity to listen to reports from our Principal.
The P&C works with the school by providing parental support on committees as well as coordinating any fund-raising activities for important school projects. It really is a team effort.
The P&C has a formal structure with a constitution and a President, 2 Vice President's, Secretary and Treasurer. These office bearers are elected at the Annual General Meeting which will be on the Monday, 7th March at 6:30pm.
$1 is needed to become a financial member.

We have had a great and busy start to the term.
It has been quite a smooth transition with students and teachers spending time settling in and getting to know each other. We are looking forward to seeing the amazing learning and growth that our students make this year.
Congratulations to the students who have been successful in becoming a Library Monitor for 2022. Miss Harris, our teacher-librarian, was most impressed with both the volume and quality of students interested in taking on this role. Well done to Olivia G, Evelyn P, Logan L, Alecia N, Max O, Sahse S, Gisele G, Kristina P, Jack P, Grace Y, Maddison D and Michell L.
Recently, our Year 5 students voted and elected two Student Representative Council members for their class for Semester 1. One of the main purposes of an SRC is to provide all students with a voice. Our SRC will hold class meetings and reporting back ideas and suggestions to help make Blackwell an even better school. They will also help raise awareness and funding to support our local community. Our SRC team for Semester 1 is Jacob C and Piper S from S3K, Sandra M and Manny M from S3CR and Beau A and Leilah P from S3C.
Over the next few weeks, various District trials will be held for different sports. Students are selected at school based on their experience and ability (often only Division 1 and/or rep players). Discussions take place between teachers, before students are given notes to attend. As these trials encompass all of the schools in the St Marys / St Clair Zone, we can only send a limited number to each sport try out. Throughout the year, there will be other opportunities to participate and perhaps try new sports in gala days and carnivals like Netball, Paul Kelly Cup, Greg Alexander Shield, etc. We wish all our students who are attending these trials, the very best of luck.
At our recent swimming carnival, one of our Year 6 students, Tiana A, broke 5 school records. One of those records was from 1993. What an achievement!
High school expression of interest forms for 2023 are due back to your child’s class teacher by 18th March 2022. If you have any questions about filling out these forms, please contact Mr Woolard or one of the Year 6 teachers for help. The local government High School is based on your current address. If your details have changed, please contact the office to update them and to organise a new form.
Parent interviews are being held during Week 10 – Monday 28th March through to Friday 1st April 2022. Bookings open from today until 3pm on Friday 18th March. Please find the instructions and website link in this newsletter to book in your time. We look forward to meeting you.
Our school book packs are available to be purchased through the office. These packs include all classroom stationery, art supplies, computer software, incursions and more. Equipment will be issued by classroom teachers once payment has been received.
Please encourage your child to wear Blackwell’s school uniform which includes black shoes/joggers with white socks.
Remember to clearly label all hats, jumpers and lunch boxes or containers with your child’s name. There have been several items found around the Stage 3 area and it can be very difficult finding their rightful owners.
Attendance is very important. If your child is absent, you will receive a SMS from the school, please respond to the SMS or send a note to school with your child upon returning to school explaining their absence.
School photos are being held on the 17th March. Year 6 students are encouraged to wear their new school shirts.
If you haven’t already, don’t forget to join our CLOSED Stage 3 Facebook group. This is a space where we will regularly post and share information about what is happening up in Stage 3.
Congratulations to the following students who have received Merit or Virtue Awards over the last few weeks.
Until next time – take care,
Kellie Balloch on behalf of the Stage 3 team
