A very warm welcome to all students and parents. I am hoping that we are able to continue in the manner in which we have started 2022. All kindergarten students have enrolled this week and appear to be very settled and happy to be part of Blackwell Learning Community. The same applies to all our students across the school.
A great start everyone!
As always we expect our students to demonstrate "Good Manners, Good Thinking and Good Learning" at all times and in all situations. We would encourage our families to also use this language at home as it helps to remind our students that home and school are in partnership in this learning journey.
The theme for this year is "YOU COLOUR OUR WORLD" with the focus on GRATITUDE.
We, as Australians, have much to be thankful for and we need to continue to remind ourselves on the positives. I know the start has been stressful for many families, including our own staff, so please just continue to be vigilant and support each other as we navigate through the COVID maze!
We farewell Mrs Wilson this week as she takes extended Long Service Leave and heads south in search of new experiences!! We thank you for all your contributions to Blackwell and wish you all the very best. We hope to hear of your adventures and look forward to seeing you back in 2023.
To our new staff, we hope you find your time here at Blackwell both rewarding and happy. I am hoping that at some stage we will be able to meet and greet each other in person. I have asked staff to contact parents and just introduce themselves and get to know their students and families. I found that during Lockdown last year the phone calls were an effective way of building connections.
I would also like to welcome Mrs Patrizi who has been employed by Kids Pantry to work at Blackwell this year. It is great to have a familiar face working behind the counter!
The school has undergone some refurbishments during the holiday break, many of which you would be unable to see at present!! The library and hall have new lighting with the library also have a new internal ceiling. Classrooms all have new pinboards and the oval has additional astro turfing. My apologies regarding the lawns and ground but our new ride-on lawnmower is yet to arrive after being assured it would be on site in November!!! We have had to resort to push mowers and outside services to contend with the lush weeds and overgrown hedges. Please bear with us as we try to take back our pastures!
At our P&C meeting via Zoom on Monday, we would really like to see some new faces and hear new views and comments. Our P&C is the perfect forum to build partnerships and provides the capacity to improve the educational settings and outcomes for all our students. Please consider getting involved as we welcome all parents and staff to have a say!!!
So again welcome to 2022 - I am sure this year will again be filled with opportunities and achievements!!!

NEWS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Welcome back to 2022. This will be a very challenging year for all of us, but we will get through it. It is important that with COVID we follow the correct protocols that have been set out by NSW health. The Woolard Family have just come out of a 7 day lockdown and it was hard but we got through it.
I know that this year will challenge us but it is vital that children turn up to school everyday. We know that we have to keep students at home if they are feeling unwell but we need to ensure that our children come to school. EVERY DAY COUNTS:
Photo day is coming up on the Thursday, 17th March 2022.
Please refer to the information pages attached to assist you in ordering your photos. Envelopes will be sent home soon. Full school uniform to be worn. Year 6 are to wear the Year 6 School shirt.
Our Swimming Carnival is on Tuesday, 15th February 2022.
It is a competitors only competition. Meaning only students who can swim 50m unaided are to attend. Parents will need to drop off and pick up students and are very welcomed to stay and watch.

Parents are able to make online payments to the school for amounts owing for students, via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using either a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card, and can be made via computer. The payment page is accessed from the front page of the schools website by selecting $ Make a payment Button below.
Items that can be paid include the school pack, excursions, creative and practical arts activities (these include choir, drama and dance). There is also a category called ‘Other’ to cover items not covered in the previous headings. Other can be used to make a complete payment of a school invoice.
When you access the $ Make a payment you must enter:
- the students name and class, date of birth
- contact details-full name, phone number and email address
- payment item-other, then description
These details are entered each time you make a payment as student information is not held within the payment system.
This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details are captured in a secure manner, these details are not passed back to the school.
You have the ability to check and change any details of the payment before the payment is processed
Details of the payments are passed daily to the school where they will be receipted against your child’s account. For any enquiries regarding the Online Payment process please contact the School Administration Office.
**PLEASE NOTE** Please do not pay any online payments which should be paid to a third party provider. For Example, School Photographers; P&C Fund-Raising etc. If unsure please call the school to check. CASH Only when paying at the Front Office.
Medication at School
Please ensure that the front office has ALL of your updated medical information and any medication required.
All Anaphylaxis & Asthma Plans need to be updated annually.
If prescribed medication is to be given to students at school, a blister pack either supplied from the chemist or in its original packaging is now required. Medication that needs to be cut will need to be done so by a pharmacist and delivered to the school in a blister pack.
Contact Information
Please ensure your contact details are updated at the front office so we can to contact you.
Student Absences
If your child is absent from school you will receive an SMS at approximately 10am requesting a reason for their absence. If you could please respond to the SMS the school is then able to update their records using this system. You are not required to contact the school by phone prior to 10am to advise of your childs absence. Thank you for your continued support.
