A NOTE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Our term is shaping up to be quite busy. Last week a group of 22 students in Year 4 and 5 attended the Sydney Writer’s Festival Primary Day at Penrith. Jessica Townsend (Nevermoor) and Emily Rodda gave a fabulous account of how they write, and what they do. Mrs Coard and Miss Harris said they had fabulous seats up near the front and the students were attentive and engaged. This is a special opportunity we like to provide each year for those students who have a real interest in reading and writing. We will certainly book again for 2022.

The Guide to Praising Children
Over the past few newsletters I have looked at Growth Mindset. Praising a child also encourages them to try hard, to try new things, to take risks and to have a go but we need to praise in the right way. Effective praise is sparing, sincere and specific.
PRAISE MORE THAN ACHIEVEMENTS - praise generosity, forgiveness, compassion, courage, being a loving friend or sibling, taking a stand, appreciation of art etc.
Give praise that focuses on process, strategies, effort, like: “You’re using great puzzle-solving strategies.”
Give praise that provides specific feedback on performance like: “You are trying so hard to tie that bow on your show lace. You made the loop so well.”
Give praise on Personal mastery where you focus on your child’s individual performance
Praise should reflect standards that could be realistically met.
Give encouragement, like “Your room looks clean!”
Avoid comparing to others, avoid setting low expectations, like “Great job! You wrote a story!” or too high, like “This is the best story I’ve ever read.”
Avoid focusing on judgement with “I like” statements, such as, “I like how clean your room looks.”
Blackwell Public School P&C Presidents Report
May 2021
This is my first note as newly elected President of the Blackwell Public School P&C. Firstly I would like to acknowledge and thank the outgoing president Frank Zlendich for all his great work as President in recent years and wish him all the best for the future.

P&C meetings are a valuable opportunity to further learn about what is going on in and around the school. Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, 7th June at 7.30pm and new faces are always welcome.
Sincerely,
Mary Geddes

UNIFORM SHOP DAYS & TIMES
Tuesday 2:30pm to 3:30pm
Thursday 8.30am to 9.30am
Our Friday Fun Runs with Mrs Naglic will re-commence in Term 2. Each Friday, weather permitting, any students who wish to participate in a fun run are invited to turn up at 1:30pm, after eating. The students can run around the outside of the big playground as many times as they wish. At the end, they line up to receive a lucky number. If their number is drawn out, they will receive a BUNNINGS DRINK BOTTLE, which was kindly donated to the school by our friends at the Minchinbury store. Mrs Naglic will also give away a second drink bottle to a keen participant each week.
So if you are interested in getting fit during your lunchtime, wear your comfortable shoes on Fridays and we look forward to seeing you in Area 2 at 1:30pm.
A BIG THANK YOU goes to all of our wonderful Stage 3 volunteers who will be assisting Mrs Naglic each Friday.
