An impressive term with all our students settling into new classes and routines. Special mention to our new Kinders who all appear so settled and ready to learn.
Sad news that Mrs Cooke has accepted an Assistant Principal position at Blaxland Public School for 2021 but good news that Mrs Naomi Robinson has stepped in to be with KC and Mrs Bulluss will relieve as Assistant Principal looking after Kindergarten.
This term has certainly flown with these 10 weeks seeing us almost return to normal routines.
Many thanks to all our parents and families for your continued support.
I do need to extend our sympathies to Noel and family on the sudden death of Jodie last week. Our prayers and thoughts to you all at this most difficult time.
So with Easter fast approaching may you enjoy this time together and stay safe during our term break.
We will see you back, ready for Term 2 on Tuesday, 20th April 2021.
Don’t forget Mufti in support of our wonderful Mothers tomorrow Thursday, 1st April with a gold coin to support our first P&C fundraiser in quiet a while.

A note from the Deputy Principal
A busy term is ending and what a great way to finish with our Privilege days of Motiv8 Sports. I’m sure your child has come home and spoke about how great a time it all was.
Privilege days are for those who show our school virtues consistently and as our staff are looking at belief in one’s self and growth mindset, showing effort, practice at tasks, and taking time, having a go are also part of the traits we like to see in our students who participate in these days.
School photo has come and gone. No photos have been delivered as yet. We will let you know when they arrive at school after the holidays. Photos will be distributed to all the classes once they arrive at school.
Upcoming events:
Application to OC school for Year 5 2022 – Notes will be coming home giving information about this. The application site opens on Tuesday 20th April, which is our first week back after the holidays. Applications close Friday 7th May 2021. Online applications are only received.
NAPLAN testing – Week 4 for students in Years 3 and 5.
Check In Assessment – This year, Blackwell has decided to participate in the Check In Assessment that the Department has encouraged schools to participate in. This is an online assessment for Years 4 and 6 to see that students are on track with their learning. This will be held in early Term 2.
Last newsletter I spoke about developing growth mindsets and we hope that you can foster this at home too. Here are some conversation starters that help develop a growth mindset.
- What did you do today that made you think hard?
- What challenge or problem have you worked on today?
- Can you think of something new you tried today? What was it?
- Can you think of a mistake that you made today?....Super! How can you use this mistake to do better next time?
- Can you think of something you could have done better today? …Super! Who can you ask for feedback from to make it better?
- What would you like to become better at?
- Did you do anything today that was easy for you? … How can you make this more challenging.
Remember, all new learning is hard. We have to go through the challenge and difficulty to learn and know new things. This is what we want our students to know. Time, Practice, practice, practice and more practice helps us to know and putting in the effort will get us there. Our brain is muscle, so we must exercise it to grow and practice, putting in effort will help to achieve this, along with mind breaks and physical activity.
One Skill
What is one skill that helps build healthy relationships, develop strong leadership skills, and become a successful team player?
Research has found that this skill also positively affects health, wealth, life satisfaction, and resilience...
Did you guess what it is?
It involves understanding what we’re feeling, what others are feeling, and learning how to guide our behaviour by that knowledge.
This superpower is called emotional intelligence.
And it's now widely accepted to be more important to life success and happiness than academic achievement. Have a look at the feelings find a word activity.
"Every storm runs out of rain, just like every dark night turns into day."
This quote by Gary Allan explains that nothing is permanent and when our children realize that their emotions are also ever-changing their whole perspective shifts.
You see when children face a BIG emotion like disappointment, anger, or grief, it feels like their whole world is coming down on them.
They think they will always feel this way.
That's why you hear from them, "I will NEVER have friends." or "I will NEVER go there again!"
The good news is that we can teach them that every storm eventually passes.
And before it passes they can "weather the storm" by using helpful coping strategies.
This week's DIY poster teaches children their emotions are like clouds, they come and go. And when clouds are rainy or stormy, they can take out an "umbrella" to take care of themselves.

Our Friday Fun Runs with Mrs Naglic will re-commence in Term 2. Each Friday, weather permitting, any students who wish to participate in a fun run are invited to turn up at 1:30pm, after eating. The students can run around the outside of the big playground as many times as they wish. At the end, they line up to receive a lucky number. If their number is drawn out, they will receive a BUNNINGS DRINK BOTTLE, which was kindly donated to the school by our friends at the Minchinbury store. Mrs Naglic will also give away a second drink bottle to a keen participant each week.
So if you are interested in getting fit during your lunchtime, wear your comfortable shoes on Fridays and we look forward to seeing you in Area 2 at 1:30pm.
A BIG THANK YOU goes to all of our wonderful Stage 3 volunteers who will be assisting Mrs Naglic each Friday.
A great first term of learning was celebrated on Tuesday 30th March with an exciting and fun privilege day with Motiv8 sport. All students attending had a great time and should be congratulated for demonstrated good manners, good thinking and good learning all term.
I hope everyone enjoys their break and comes back fresh and ready to start Term 2.
All High school forms that have been returned have been entered and sent off to selected High Schools. Parents wishing to enrol their child in a sports or performing arts High School will need to contact the school to find out when try-outs or auditions are being held. We usually hear back in Term 3.
Interrelate notes went home for Year 6 on Monday and money and note needs to be returned before the start of the program on Thursday, 13th May. Interrelate is very popular at our school and all students will be attending the sessions in their own class. The program “Moving in to Teen Years” is excellent and I recommend it to all Year 6. If you require any further information about the program, please contact Interrelate.
Motiv8 Sports will kick off their after-school program next term starting from Week 2. It costs $100.00 for 8 weeks of sports fun, right here in our back playground. The program will run on Tuesdays from 3.00pm to 4.30pm from Week 2 to Week 8.
If interested then BOOK NOW: www.motiv8sports.com.au or call 0402 200 479
