Something to think about as this crazy year draws to an end......
"Barely has the day started..and it's bell time
I have barely arrived at school on Monday and now it's Friday,
..... and the month is over
..... and the year has gone
..... and already 40, 50 and 60 years of my life have passed
..... and we realise it's too late to go back!!!
so.... I am trying to enjoy each day as it comes.
I am also trying to eliminate the afters....
I'm doing that after
I'll think about it after
Because what we don't understand is that:
Afterwards, priorities change
Afterwards, health passes
Afterwards, the kids grow up
Afterwards, the promises are forgotten
Afterwards.........
And then it is too late.
So ....leave nothing for later
Because waiting we can lose the best moments, the best friends, the best family...
The day is today. The moment is now...."
I did not write this but I think it fits perfectly with our 2020 and what may lay beyond.
To our staff who are leaving Mrs Jarron, Miss Harper, Mrs Drake and Miss Stojanovski and to Mrs Cameron who will be on leave - we thank you for all your time and expertise spent here at Blackwell and wish you well as you take other journeys.

The long awaited announcements will be made next Monday at our Year 5 Presentation Day Assembly.
To all our 633 students - you have made this year unforgetable!!! Your determination, kindness, manners and good humour, on most occassions, have made each day a pleasure to be here.
To the 2020 leadership team - you have been wonderful! I have been so impressed by your manner and the way you have responded to so many unique challenges. I am sure you will continue to excel in whatever you choose to attempt.
To the P&C who have rallied and supported the school in whatever manner they could I appreciate your continued commitment.
To the staff who make Blackwell special "THANK YOU!" It has not been easy!!!
You have displayed enormous courage, resillence, talent, patience (with me) and dedication to our profession.
I am so proud to be part of this amazing school!
Enjoy the coming holidays and may the Christmas Season bring you and your families, Joy and Peace.
A special SRC thankyou to our family and students on our recent Christmas Mufti Day fund raiser for Archer.
Together we have raised $1400 for the Pittorino family.
Thinking of Archer and his family at Christmas.
A Note from the Deputy Principal
As this is the last newsletter for the year, I just want to remind you and our students that expectations for our students is to Have Good Manners, Good Thinking and Good Learning.
Please remind your child about these expectations as at this time of year, many students think it is OK to misbehave and not to focus on tasks in the classroom. Classes are working up to the end of term.
Year 4, 2020 parents who applied for their child to sit for the Year 5 OC class for 2021 will be notified by the Department.
I would like to update you on the modified timeline for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2021.
The Opportunity Class Placement Test was conducted on Wednesday, 18 November 2020 in 1068 primary schools and test centres across NSW.
To ensure that most vacancies are filled by the start of Term 1, 2021, parents who are offered placement on behalf of their children will have just one week to respond to their offers.
By Monday, 25 January 2021, the Department will provide all primary schools with an update of students from their schools who have accepted offers to schools with opportunity classes.
Key dates principals should be aware of for remaining stage of the OC process:
- Mid-January 2021 – Placement outcome information is sent to parents and schools. Parents with offers must respond within one week.
- From mid-January 2021 – Parents accept or decline offers. The Reserve List is activated.
- 25 January 2021 – Primary schools will be provided with an updated report of students with accepted offers.
- 27 January 2021 – At 5pm, students with accepted offers are withdrawn from the reserve list.
There will be 2 Staff Development Days at the beginning of the school year in 2021. Staff will be onsite on 27th and 28th January. Students in Years 1 – 6 return on Friday, 29th January 2021.
As I look back on 2020, the COVID year, I am sure that Blackwell has also valued, supported and cared for our students. The school has operated as close to normal ensuring incursions and special days can go ahead. The Staff and I thank you for your support in these difficult times.
Let’s hope that 2021 will ring in a brand New Year! I am looking forward to another adventure and journey with all our students next year. We will certainly try to soar and be UP, UP AND AWAY…..
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY BREAK.
See you all next year.
Judith Wilson
Deputy Principal
It is hard to imagine that another year is coming to a close. Although the end of term means we are finished the school year, 2020 has been the slowest and longest year simultaneously.
The P&C contribution to the Blackwell community has been significantly different as a result this year, with little to nothing to report. We hope to return in a more active capacity in 2021.
On behalf of the P&C executives, we hope you and your families have a safe and happy holidays and look forward to face to face meetings, again one day in the future.
Regards
Cherie Pollard
2020 P&C Secretary on behalf of the P&C Executive

Medication at School 2021
All medication and Health Care Plans held at school will be returned to your child on Wednesday, 16th December 2020.
Please return any new in date medication which your child may need to use for the 2021 school year when students return to school on Friday, 29th January 2021.
If your child has an asthma, allergic or anaphylaxis plan, these are to be updated each year and should also be returned for the start of the 2021 school year. It is recommended that parents of these children make a doctor’s appointment for after 1st January, 2021 so these plans are current for the start of the 2021 school year. It is a departmental requirement that these plans are current for the appropriate school year and also that a colour copy of the anaphylaxis plans are provided to the school.
Your co-operation in these matters is greatly appreciated.
Please ensure that the front office has ALL of your updated medical information and any medication brought in at the start of next year.
