Welcome to 2019!!
What a great start! 660 students are sitting happy and excited in 26 classrooms. I think most of the staff also have smiles-especially at 3pm!
A special thanks to our parents who have assisted in this smooth transition. I just hope it lasts!!!
The theme for this year is "A world of Imagination" with Roald Dahl as our special author. Many thanks to the Pettit family for their kind donation of our new library sayings and screens. They look AMAZING
I have included a full list of staff but special mention to two new staff -
Mrs Peta Del Carmen who is our support teacher and
Mrs Allyson Drake who is our new Aboriginal support officer.
We also have Mrs Hancock and Miss Nuygen here as casuals while Miss Gorman is on LSL.
Miss lane has unfortunately been admitted to hospital last week but is on the mend and hopes to return in a few weeks.
I hope this is the beginning of a wonderful year, full of memories and good times.
I am sure all our students and staff are ready to:
Be
Passionate and
Succeed.

A note from the Deputy Principal
Welcome back to a new school year.
Let me introduce myself if you don’t know me already. I am Judith Wilson, the Deputy Principal here at Blackwell. I love coming each day to help your children, our students, and to support everyone in our school community. My students are the first priority and as such, my role is to ensure the well -being of our students.
I have been at Blackwell since 2012 and still enjoy coming each day. Every day is a new and special day. I have 3 children, 1 daughter who lives in California, 1 son who is a teacher also and lives in Griffith, and 1 son who is a creative arts and graphic designer who lives near me in Sydney. I am fortunate to have 5 beautiful grandchildren whom I just adore. Unfortunately 2 live in America and I don’t see them enough. My other 3 are delightful and I just love spending time with them on the weekends and holidays. Genevieve has turned 5 and has just started school this week too, like our Kinders. I am also that doting grandparent to see how she has gone with her first day at school. I love to travel and see different cultures in the world, love to read and see movies and theatre and take walks along the beach. Eating out is also a good past time of mine too.
Each school year at Blackwell starts with looking at our Values and what it means to have Good manners, Good Thinking, Good learning. Classes set up expectations and rules within the first week or 2. Next week our School Code of Conduct booklet and Anti-Bullying pamphlets will go home. Each child will have gone through the code of conduct in their class and would have signed that they will abide by this code while at Blackwell this year. Parents, please ensure that you read this booklet, sign it in front of your child and discuss what the expectations are, of the class.
The Department sets out a Behaviour Code for Students where schools are committed to provide safe, supportive and responsive learning environments. In NSW public schools students are expected to:
- Respect other students, their teachers and school staff and community members.
- Follow school and class rules and follow the directions of their teachers.
- Strive for the highest standards in learning.
- Respect all members of the school community and show courtesy to all students, teachers and community members.
- Resolve conflict respectfully, calmly and fairly.
- Comply with the school’s uniform policy or dress code.
- Attend school every day.
- Respect all property.
- Not be violent or bring weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol or tobacco into our schools.
- Not bully, harass, intimidate or discriminate against anyone.
Blackwell takes strong action in response to behaviour that is detrimental to self or others or to the achievement of high quality teaching and learning. Our student welfare, behaviour processes support this.

Welcome to Stage 2019
We have an exciting year planned for Stage 3 this year.
Our Stage 3 camp this year is planned for Canberra in Term 4. It is not cheap to go to Canberra so we are getting information out very early so parents will have enough time to get it paid off.
We want our Stage 3 students to be organised and prepared for school everyday. A good way to do this is with the school's packs. They are $80 and include everything your child needs. The school packs also include 4 excellent incursions that are occurring throughout the year.
Stage 3 Homework will be sent out every Monday and returned on Fridays. There is a small comprehension passage and some maths questions that we are asking students to complete. There will also be an occasional Let's Talk topic to complete. Homework is not compulsory but we do encourage all students to take the time to do some form of homework in readiness for High School.
If you would like to speak to your child's class teacher, please make an appointment.
