Congratulations to all our newly elected SRC. I am sure you will be great advocates for Blackwell this year!
Our Student Representative Council plays an important role in the life of our school and we look forward to the suggestions, activities and events that our students will plan. This year Miss Makragic will coordinate with our students and leadership conferences and camps are already planned. We also will be conducting some small fundraising events to sponsor our World Vision Student, Phiri Grace. Phiri lives in Zambia and was born in 2014. She has 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Another event we are planning is in support of Camp Quality. Our students will send more details home once finalised.
Many thanks for joining the teachers at our recent Information sessions and finding out about our stages and what is happening in classes. Parent/ Teacher Interviews will be held in the week beginning Monday, 23rd March. Wednesday, 25th March has been sent aside as our evening and each teacher will make available other times during the week that they have free. A link to our online booking app is included in this newsletter.
Our P&C AGM will be held next Monday 2nd March. We hope that we will see many of our parents at this important event. Our P&C is a vital part of our school and we welcome the opportunity to meet and share concerns and expectations. Our school needs your support, so please consider joining us. Meetings are once a month on the first Monday and offer lively discussion and friendship.
All students are busy learning Blackwell "Road Rules" and what it means to be a Blackwell student. Student licences are being signed and I would hope that you continue to support us with our "GOOD MANNERS, GOOD THINKING AND GOOD LEARNING."
Swimming ribbons will be handed out at our next combined assembly on Monday, 23rd March. Well done to all our competitors and to those that went on to represent at District. Great to see the results with records broken and many PBs.

Managing Your Child’s Behaviour
Jenni Pearce – Psychologist 2009.
- Avoid arguments. You own the house, you drive the car, you set the rules. Getting into an argument will only escalate an issue. Model the kind of behaviour you want to see in your child. Stay calm. Talk in a steady voice. Restate the rules. Remain silent if screamed at. Walk away for a short while. Set the ground rules: your child has a right to express opinions, but not by screaming.
- Test yourself: When did you last rescue your child by doing something they should have done?
Let your child experience the consequences of their behaviour. At a certain age, your child is ready to face the real world. Your job becomes less protecting them, and more helping them, and more helping them to realise the harsh realities. Arriving at school in pyjamas is amusing once, and then just very uncool. Most schools will find a boring white vegemite sandwich to replace forgotten lunch boxes. Children who have major tantrums are clearly not able to attend birthday parties. Items broken or borrowed permanently from older siblings can be paid back by a levy on every week’s pocket money, or from the money you would have spent on chocolates, chips or ice-creams.
