Congratulations to our nominees for School Leaders 2020. I wish each of these 20 wonderful students all the best as they stand for this position. Each student is most worthy of the title!
All the best to
Please be reminded that school supervision for our students begins at 8:30am and ends at 3:30pm. No student should be on school grounds until 8:30am. Special written permission needs to be sought if there may be an odd occasion when students need to arrive earlier. All students need to be collected at 3pm when they are dismissed. Again, communication needs to take place if students are to remain after this time.
SMS messages will be trialled here commencing this week. This will notify a parent if a student has been marked absent with no explanation.
Congratulations to our SRC on their final fundraising venture. $400 was raised by their lunchtime discos with all funds going to support our World Vision Charity.
Congratulation to Troy on his third place win at the STePs Rotary Public Speaking competition last week. Troy spoke about "Volunteers" with both passion and humour. All speakers were poised and confident and displayed a real gift in this area. I am sure Troy will spend his winnings wisely!!!
Banks and Blackwell students competed for the title of STePS Debating Championship on Monday. All teams have provided a strong field with Blackwell Public School taking out the final debate. Many thanks to Mrs Bulluss and Mrs Anderson for the time spent coaching and supporting our students, especially our new Year 5 team.
We welcomed Mrs Coard back after her accident and are very pleased to see her fully recovered. Her class were excited to greet her too!

A Note from the Deputy Principal
After coming home from my travels to Egypt, I can’t help but think what a lucky country we live in! Not only do we have good living conditions and a good political environment, we are so fortunate that we have a school system where all students attend.
I know our students here at Blackwell would probably love to ride a donkey to the tourists who are landing in the hot air balloons, but these children live in poverty and scrounge for any extra money for their family to survive. They don’t have a good education so they will have limited options in their life. At Blackwell we strive to enthuse our students, to enjoy learning so that they will have better options as an adult. I am so proud to be a part of this school and our schooling system. I am so glad and appreciative to be home and a part of Blackwell.
Kinder transitions for 2020 have been busy and we looking forward to welcoming our new little ones.
Leaders 2020 election will take place on Monday, 2nd December. Announcement of leaders will be given at Presentation day.

Reports go home – Wednesday, 11th December.
Presentation day – Monday, 16th December. Notes will go home to parents if your child will be receiving an award.
Last school day for students – Wednesday, 18th December.
HOT TIPS FOR MANAGING BEHAVIOUR.
- Make good behaviour easy for your child. Give choices:
“you can start your homework now, or have 10 minutes outside with the dog before you start homework.” Make sure everyone in the family is expected to stick by the rules: it has to be fair. Avoid backing your child into a corner. – try to be flexible and find solutions that work around the problems.
Test yourself: Did you give choices last time you asked your child to do something?
- Avoid arguments. You own the house, you drive the car, you set the rules. Getting into an argument will only escalate the issue. Model the kind of behaviour you want to see in your child: stay calm. Talk in a steady voice. Restate the rules. Remain silent if screamed at. Walk away for a short while. Set the ground rules: your child has a right to express opinions but not by screaming.
Test yourself: When did you last yell?
- Let your child experience the consequences of their behaviour. At a certain age, your child is ready to face the real world. Your job becomes less protecting them, and more helping them to realise the harsh realities. Generally arriving at school in pyjamas is amusing once, and then just very uncool. We will make a suitably boring vegemite sandwich to replace forgotten lunch boxes. Children who have major tantrums are clearly not able to attend birthday parties. Items broken or borrowed permanently from older siblings can be paid back by a levy on every week’s pocket money, or from the money you would have spent on chocolates, chips or ice creams.
Test yourself: When did you last rescue your child by doing something they should have done?
