A Note from the Princial
Welcome back to Term 3
A special welcome to our two new high school principals Julie Teggart at St Clair High and Brenda Quayle at Erskine Park High.
STePS Schools have recently added a new Facebook page that will give parents an opportunity to view our STePS Initiatives across our 5 primary and 2 high schools.
What wonderful community support!! All those little stickers you collected and sent in have been totalled to 86,000 points. Here are the items we have purchased with those Earn and Learn stickers. Total cost equates to $2,650 real dollars. Many tanks to our dedicated group of students who came every morning and added them to our sheets and the office staff who collated the final tallies each day. Hopefully our items will arrive early Term 4 and be in use. I am sure our students will be delighted with the purchases. The glue bottle was to ensure we spent every point!!!
Kinder 2020 Enrolments. Please ensure you have collected an enrolment form, complete and return as soon as possible so we have an accurate indication of our kinder numbers for 2020.
If you have a child due to start school who is turning 5 on or before 31st July 2020, or know of someone with a school aged child living in the area, please let them know that they can come and collect an enrolment form from our front office and when completed it can be returned to our office with:
- Original Birth certificate
- Current Immunisation certificate
- Proof of Address (eg Utility Bill, Rental Agreement or Council Rates)

A Note from the Deputy Principal
Message for the Deputy Principal
Another busy term coming up! Welcome back to term 3.
Our school promotes a positive culture which comes from a supportive culture that builds relationships with all in our school community.
Our students are part of this community, and it is with both parents and teachers and school that helps support student learning. This term I will look at how we can help support our children to have successful learning. The skills for learning are necessary for having empathy, managing emotions, and solving problems. To be successful in school, students must be able to regulate their emotions, thoughts and behaviours. The skills required to do this are known as “self regulation skills”. Skills for learning are : Focusing attention, listening, being assertive and using self talk.
Students with more ability to self regulate are more likely to have:
- Better math, literacy and vocabulary skills
- Higher academic achievement
- Graduate from High School
- Choose prosocial responses.
Being Assertive
Learning means doing something new every day. Sometimes, when we’re doing something new, we get stuck and don’t know what to do. If we get stuck, we can use a skill for learning – that is, Being Assertive. We need to ask for help. That is OK and part of the learning process. Our students need to learn this too, it’s OK to ask for help. Being assertive when you don’t know something means asking for what you need or want in calm, firm and respectful way. Encourage your child to do this in class, at home, in various other activities. Have your child face the person you are talking to, and keep your head up and shoulders back. When you can’t figure out what to do in class, remember to be assertive and ask for help. Being assertive is a respectful way to get what you need or want. It’s the best way to ask for help.
This week notice your child using assertive words and actions, including asking for help, and reinforce this behaviour verbally. Have a go yourself, and see how being assertive and asking for help can make a difference. Being respectful in this, is the key!
