Last week was a busy week with Year 3 visiting Taronga Zoo and Year 4 at Yarramundi Camp. Thank you to all of the staff, students and parents for working together to ensure these are a positive experience for all.
This week sees our Kinder students visit Calmsley City Farm, I'm sure it will be a wonderful day.
My sincere apologies for the cancellation of Blackwell Buddies this week. I will reorganise on my return.
I appreciate that there have been a number of staff absences of late, we are doing our best to keep all classes functioning. Please continue to support us by keeping sick students at home.

PLAY
What is play?
Play is children’s language, children’s work and children’s relaxation. Play is needed for healthy development. In play children learn to decide and how to play with others, pretending, learning a new skill, dressing up, being active or quiet, having time to be free and to enjoy. Adults can join in if they are invited. It is essential to make time for children to play.
Developing children’s social and emotional skills through play
- They can express their feelings even before they have words to say how they feel.
- Children are in charge of what they do. Being in control helps them to learn to manage their feelings.
- Builds skills and self- confidence when building or making things.
- Learn to lead and how to care for others.
- Helps children learn to be patient, to plan and think about what they want to do.
- Play helps children to learn how to mend mistakes and to feel better after things go wrong. It’s OK to make mistakes.
- Helps reduce children’s stress.
- It helps children to make sense of the world.
- Play is for imagination and creativity. Critical for learning.
- Play is something children can own in a world where most things are organised by adults.
- Play is a time when adults and children can have fun together.
How can adults support children’s play?
- Arrange safe places for children to play, indoors and outdoors, in parks and playgrounds.
- Arrange time for play and not scheduling too much in a child’s day.
- Provide children with playthings like dolls, playdough, paints, blocks and to find their own playthings like gumnuts, boxes, fabrics, puddles.
- By reading and storytelling.
- By playing with children when invited and stopping when children want to play their own games.
- By following the child’s lead and resisting temptation to criticise, direct or turn play into a lesson.

Thanks for registering for Woolworths Earn & Learn. It’s nearly time to start collecting stickers and earning equipment for Blackwell Public School.
Anyone can help you earn equipment
Starting Wednesday 1 May, anyone can collect stickers to support your school when they shop at Woolworths, whether they’re staff, parents or friends.
With every $10 spent* at Woolworths, one sticker is collected. These can be placed onto the Earn & Learn sticker sheets and dropped into the collection box at Blackwell Public School or your local Woolworths.
To help boost your sticker collection, look out for the range of participating products in store which will earn you double stickers.
