A busy and productive term once again. Many thanks to all of our staff, students and community for your continued support in all of our undertakings.
Sport In Schools has been well received and assisted our staff with some much needed planning time. It does however come at quite a cost. We expect to pay over $100,000 to use this compnay for the year.
As you would be aware casual teachers are very hard to find, and Covid is still impacting families and teachers alike. It is still a constant struggle to ensure our classes are covered and operating on a daily basis.
We continue to provide a wide range of additional opportunities such as sporting teams, cultural groups, choir and dancing troupes whilst still supporting our StEPs events.
Thanks to our newly employed SLSO Mr Martin Matini our Senior Pasifika students have received additional support both in the classroom setting and outside.
Mrs Shortland has also volunteered to work with our Pasifika girls dance troupe.
Next term we will be welcoming Mr Steve Trist to support our Aboriginal students with cultural pursuits.
Once again our students continue to demonstrate Good Manners, Good Thinking and Good Learning. We hope that they continue to challenge themselves and strive to achieve personal goals.
A huge THANKS for your support in completing the Before / After Hub survey. The Department has decided that there is still a need for this service in our Community. Work has recommenced.
Our basketball court has been dug up and will be completely resurfaced. We hope to see most of the work completed during our holiday period. This is our major expense for this year. We have managed to replace most of our stage computers and have invested in a new digital display in our Front Office. The majority of our finances have been used to employ staff in 2024. We have 2 additional classes, 12 additional SLSO's as well as some additional administrative staff. Our current enrolments stand at 496 with 501 being the magic number in Public Schools to hold such positions as a Deputy Principal, full time Librarian and a full time General Assistant.
2025 will certainly see some major changes as our enrolments continue to decline. Whilst we have demountable classrooms in our school we are not permitted to accept any non local families.
To finish the term our PAWS lunch will not only acknowledge the great work done by our students but will also recognise our senior school leadership team.
Congratulations to you all on an excellent first term.

Attendance
It is great to see that Blackwell’s Attendance is improving every week. This is what we want. Kids coming to school every day. It looks like Mr Lee’s class KL are the best class winners for Term 1. They have had over 95% attendance for 3 weeks in a row. Well done KL.
Remember your child needs to come to school every day unless they are unwell. Then we need an explanation and, in some cases, a medical certificate.
At Blackwell over 95% of our students maintain a perfect behaviour licence never losing a point. I wish I was that good with my points on my driving licence. At times, problems occur and students will lose points off their licence and will have to do a reflection time with an Executive staff member. At Blackwell, we have a high expectation of behaviour in the classroom and playground. Therefore any student who drops below 10 points will not be invited to attend privilege days and any events happening that term outside of school.
Mobile Phones
We have some exciting things happening at Blackwell in Term 2.
- Our Paul Kelly cup will be competing on the 15th May
- Blackwell is running a St Marys District OZ TAG Gala day on the 25th June.
- St Marys District Cross Country Carnival on the 17th May
- All of Blackwell will be Trying AFL on the 2nd May
- All of Blackwell will be preparing for our Reach for the Stars Concert in Term 3.
Lots of reasons to turn up to Blackwell every day.

STUDENTS ARRIVING EARLY OR LATE FOR SCHOOL
Dear Parents / Carers,
We have a significant number of students arriving late and leaving early each day for school. Whilst we understand that some appointments can only be made during school hours, we kindly ask that parents / carers please report to the office to drop off and pick up students.
WHEN STUDENTS ARE LATE ARRIVING TO SCHOOL
We ask that when students are arriving after the 9am bell, they are either accompanied by a parent / carer or have a note explaining their absence.
WHEN STUDENTS ARE LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY
If you are collecting your child prior to the 3pm bell, please present to the office upon arrival. Your child will be called to the office.
Please do not go directly to your child’s classroom to collect them. They need to be signed out with a valid reason for leaving.
If you are sending someone to collect your child early that is NOT listed as an emergency contact, please contact the office prior to advise the details of who will be collecting your child. We will ask for photo identification upon their arrival.
We thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
Payments can be made on the Sentral for Parents portal.
Please email the school if it is not appearing on your invoice TAB.
Medication at School
If you have not already done so, please ensure all medication and relevant action plans for your child have been provided to the school for 2024.
If there is a change in medication or your child no longer requires administration at school, please advise the Front Office in writing as soon as practicable.
All Anaphylaxis & Asthma Plans need to be updated annually from date of issue.
It is important to remember that any Allergy and Anaphalaxis Medical Plans need to be provided in color by your Doctors as to ensure we are able to identlfy the plan by sight.
Please ensure that the front office has ALL of your updated medical information and any medication required.
If prescribed medication is to be given to students at school, a blister pack either supplied from the chemist or in its original packaging is now required. Medication that needs to be cut will need to be done so by a pharmacist and delivered to the school in a blister pack.
Contact Information
Please ensure your contact details are updated at the front office so we can contact you when required.

The second half of the term has been very busy in the MC. We have been learning about plants and the weather, started drumming in the AV room every Tuesday and joined Kindergarten for our little assembly each Friday.
The students should be proud of the resilience they have been building through Bounce Back, social skills and structured play lessons. We came together to participate in a variety of great activities for Harmony Day on Wednesday 20th March. It has been a tremendous first term in the MC!
