Other Curricular Activities

Blackwell's other Curricular Activities include:

Dance: will be organised sometime this term We will form a Stage 3 dance troupe with Mrs Turnball in charge.

Choir: Mrs Lockley runs the school choir with students from grades 2-6 and she is also in charge of the mass choir involving the STEPS schools. The choir performs at our assemblies, concerts and the STEPS concert in July.

Gardening: Selected students help Mr Brown keep our gardens looking nicely presented. Parents and teachers visiting always comment on our gardens which is a credit to our GA Mr Gorman.

Dance Sport: Blackwell and 25 other schools in Sydney's West, participate in The Sydney Dance Sport Championships. A ballroom dancing competition for stage 2 and stage 3 students. This is an annual competition run in November and students audition and practise all year in preparation. A Stage 2 and Stage 3 team will be selected during Term 2. Our teams are always highly credited in the finals and all students enjoy the chance to participate.

Debating: our debating team is run by Mrs Bulluss and consists of Stage 3 students. In 2019 the Blackwell Debating Team were the area's Grand Champions. This year we will be involved in a new STEPS debating group and look forward to learning new skills as our debating format will change and include our two local high schools in this adventure

SRE / SEE: At Blackwell Public School, SRE and SEE is delivered on Wednesday's inbetween recess and lunch. On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE and SEE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE/SEE should be given to the front office, in writing.

The following SRE classes are offered at Blackwell Public School: Catholic and Prodestant.

SEE is provided by Primary Ethics. For more information about SEE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sepuence, please visit the Primary Ethics Website.

During the time that SRE/SEE classes are being held, students not attending will be located in a separate space and will participate in meaningful acivities.

STEPS Book forums were also introduced as part of our STEPS Learning Community. 

STEPS(St Clair Erskine Park Schools) are also involved in TOPSTEPS and STEPPING UP TOGETHER programs which operated across our 5 primary and 2 high schools.

Guitars lessons are run by Mr Farag. These lessons are run at lunchtime for interested students. We can supply guitars or students may bring their own. See Mr Farag if interested.

Mr David Adlam also runs private Martial Arts lessons through the school and assists with small selected groups of students.

Lunchtime activities such as drawing and chess lessons are offered as alternatives in our library.
